Meningiomas:
Meningiomas are tumors of the meninges and are largely benign. They can range in size (mm → cm) and can occur in different locations. They are more common in females and represent approximately 15-25% of all tumors within the skull. Meningiomas can also be found in the spinal column.
Symptoms are usually due to compression but their location within the intracranial cavity is diverse and therefore so are the symptoms at presentation.
Evaluation and treatment is complex and comprehensive. Complete surgical excision would be the ultimate goal, but location, age, neurovascular structures and “management risk” all play into the decision as to what can be done to eradicate or control the tumor. SRS (i.e. Gamma Knife) without or with surgery is an option for the patient.
